Betclic Elite 2026-27 explained: season, Play-In and playoffs
The French championship is a long regular season in which each club plays the others home and away, followed by a Play-In and then the playoffs. In the most recent seasons, the quarter-finals were played as a best of three, with the semi-finals and the final as a best of five, and that is the format of 2025-26. For 2027 the format remains to be confirmed, so treat the numbers as a reminder of recent practice rather than as a rule. The league season started in late September 2026 and should finish with the decisive series in May and June 2027. For the fan, the structure has an advantage: the playoff series are short, so every game matters, and the atmosphere in the arenas is often intense. If you plan a trip, aim for the late stage of the regular season or for the opening games of the playoffs, once the pairings are known, but keep your bookings flexible because dates are published late.
French league 2026-27: Monaco, Paris and ASVEL
Monaco won the title in 2026 for the third time, beating Paris Basketball in the final, and Élie Okobo was the finals MVP. This season, Monaco does not play in the EuroLeague, which means the club can concentrate its energy on the domestic league, although its squad and budget remain among the strongest in the country. Paris Basketball and LDLC ASVEL, from Villeurbanne, represent France in the EuroLeague, so their calendars are busy and they must manage rotations across two competitions. The EuroLeague presence is a double-edged sword for the domestic title: it brings prestige and income, but also fatigue and injuries. Evan Fournier, who was MVP of the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four with Olympiacos, is a reminder that French players are still very visible in European basketball. The EuroLeague side of the story is covered on our EuroLeague 2027 page, and the two competitions complement each other well for a basketball-minded visitor.
Arenas of the French league 2026-27: where to watch a game
The French league offers a wide range of venues, from modern arenas to traditional halls known for their atmosphere. In Paris, the Adidas Arena is the home of the capital’s club and a recent addition to the landscape. In the Lyon area, ASVEL plays at the Astroballe in Villeurbanne, a venue with a famous reputation for noise. In Limoges, the Beaublanc hall is one of the most symbolic places in French basketball, with a history of passionate supporters. Each venue has its own character, and a visit to a smaller city can be more intimate and sometimes cheaper than a big-city game. We do not give capacities here, because the figures change with the configuration, and clubs publish the details on their own channels. Choose a game based on the atmosphere you want: a polished show in a large arena, or the noise of a historic hall where supporters stand and sing. Arrive early, because the best seats in small arenas disappear quickly, and in a famous hall the standing areas fill up long before the game starts.
Betclic ELITE 2026-27 tickets: prices and how to buy
Most clubs sell tickets through their own websites, and many also use official ticketing partners. As a rough indication only, and not an official price list, a seat for a regular-season game is generally affordable compared with international sport, often ranging from the price of a cinema ticket for a modest seat to a moderate amount for the best places. Matches against the big clubs, derbies and playoff games cost more and sell faster. Season tickets and multi-game packs offer savings for regular visitors. For popular games, the club’s official website is the first place to look, and in France the resale of sports tickets is regulated, so prefer official exchanges and recognised platforms when they exist. Compare the final price including fees and avoid unsolicited offers from unknown sources. The alert on this page will email you when a final, a major game or a ticket sale is announced, so you can book early.

French league 2026-27 talent: the road to the NBA
France has become one of the world’s main sources of talent for the NBA, and the domestic league plays a central role in that story. Young players develop in clubs’ academies and in the Betclic Elite itself, where they test themselves against experienced professionals before moving to the draft or to a bigger European club. For a visitor, this creates a good reason to watch regular-season games: you can see players who may be known across the world in a few years. Victor Wembanyama is the most visible example of French basketball’s recent success, and he will play in Paris with the Spurs on 14 January 2027, a game covered on our NBA Paris Game 2027 page. We do not list individual prospects here, because squads and transfers change often, but the overall picture is clear. A seat in a modest arena is the best way to spot future stars at a low price, and to understand the French style of play.
A basketball trip in France around the French league 2026-27
A trip built around the French league is easy to organise because clubs are spread across the country and many are in cities that are interesting in their own right. A weekend in Paris can combine a league game with the NBA Paris Game on 14 January 2027, if you are lucky enough to find a ticket, or with a EuroLeague night involving Paris Basketball. A trip to Lyon area can pair ASVEL at the Astroballe with a city break, and Limoges offers a more traditional experience. Fixtures are published several weeks ahead, and kick-off times vary between evenings and weekend afternoons, so book refundable transport and avoid committing to a specific match until its date is confirmed. The trip planning page offers more ideas for combining events, and the basketball calendar for 2027 lets you check which dates are free. If you want to see the best of European basketball, you can also look at the Spanish and Italian leagues, covered on our Copa del Rey and Liga Endesa page and our LBA Serie A page.
Betclic Elite 2026-27 FAQ
Questions about the Betclic Elite 2026-27 usually concern the format, the champions and the way to get a ticket. The firm facts are that the season started on the weekend of 25 to 27 September 2026, that Monaco are the defending champions after beating Paris Basketball in the 2026 final, and that Paris Basketball and ASVEL play in the EuroLeague this year. The uncertain points are the playoff format for 2027, the exact dates of the finals and the Leaders Cup. The answers below mark what is confirmed and what is expected, so you can plan with confidence. Activate the free alert at the top of the page and you will receive an email when a key date is announced, and we update this guide whenever the league or the clubs publish something new. When does the French league 2026-27 season end?
The league started on the weekend of 25 to 27 September 2026 and should end with the playoff finals in May and June 2027. The exact dates have not been verified in our information, so it is better to treat them as expected and not as fixed. In recent seasons, the competition included a Play-In, quarter-finals as a best of three and semi-finals and finals as a best of five, but the format for 2027 remains to be confirmed. If you plan to travel for a decisive game, wait for the official calendar to be published, which usually happens late, and choose refundable bookings. The alert on this page will email you when the league announces the dates of the finals or any change in format. Also consider that television schedules sometimes move games by a day, so wait for the confirmed date before paying for travel, and prefer fares that allow free changes.
Who are the French league 2026-27 defending champions?
AS Monaco won the title in 2026, their third, after beating Paris Basketball in the final. Élie Okobo was named MVP of the finals. That result makes Monaco the team to beat in 2026-27, although the club does not play in the EuroLeague this season, which could help it focus on the domestic competition. Paris Basketball, the runner-up, and LDLC ASVEL both play in the EuroLeague, so they will have a demanding schedule. A champion does not always repeat, because injuries, transfers and fatigue can change the balance during a long season. Follow the standings in the winter and spring, and use our alert to be told about key dates. It is worth remembering that the title was decided in a final series against the capital club, a pairing that could well return, since both teams have kept strong rosters and ambitions. Evaluate the contenders again after the winter break, once injuries and new signings have had time to show their effect on the table.
Which Betclic Elite 2026-27 clubs play in the EuroLeague?
Two French clubs are in the EuroLeague in 2026-27: Paris Basketball and LDLC ASVEL from Villeurbanne. Paris Basketball takes part with a one-year wild card, and its opening game was scheduled against Panathinaikos on 24 September 2026. AS Monaco, the French champion, is no longer in the competition this season, and Beşiktaş takes its place in the field. For supporters, this means that the best French clubs can be seen both in the domestic league and in the European competition, which offers visiting fans plenty of choice. More information on the continental competition, including the Final Four, is available on our EuroLeague Final Four page. The alert will tell you about key dates in both competitions as they are confirmed. A visitor who wants to see one of these clubs should check both calendars, because EuroLeague weeks usually have midweek games and the domestic fixtures are then moved around them, which can affect the day on which a home game falls.
How much do French league 2026-27 tickets cost?
There is no single price list, because each club sets its own prices. As a rough indication only, regular-season games are generally accessible, with modest seats costing a limited amount and the best places and big matches costing more. Derbies, matches against the leading clubs and playoff games are usually pricier and sell faster. Many clubs offer season tickets and multi-game packages, which reduce the cost per game. Buy from the club’s official channels first, and in France prefer official exchanges and recognised platforms if you need resale. Compare the total with fees and set a budget before you book. The free alert here will email you when a major game or ticket sale is announced. For families and groups, ask the club about discounted tickets for children and students, which many clubs offer, and check whether the venue sells tickets on the night, since smaller games often do and the price may then be lower than online.
